A hotel front desk resume should show how you turn a reservation into a room assignment, handle the guest's bill, and keep requests moving between shifts. Name the property management system you used and the parts of a stay you handled. Include night audit only if you actually performed the overnight accounting work.
Naomi Reed and every employer, school, and resume detail below are fictional. The example follows a front desk agent at an independent hotel in Richmond, Virginia, with earlier paid cafe work. Replace the sample facts with your own systems, responsibilities, training, and dates.

Experience
- Check guests in using OPERA Cloud, confirm reservation and identity details following hotel procedures, review payment arrangements, assign a ready room, and issue keys.
- Create and amend telephone reservations in OPERA Cloud, confirm stay dates and available room types, explain the selected rate's cancellation terms, and send booking confirmations.
- Compare the arrivals list with room status in OPERA Cloud, confirm readiness with housekeeping for early arrivals, and refer requests the hotel cannot accommodate to the front office supervisor. (note 1)
- Review room and parking charges with departing guests, post payments and complete check-out in OPERA Cloud, provide guest folios, and send disputed charges with supporting reservation notes to the supervisor for a decision. (note 2)
- Log guest reports of room equipment faults, contact maintenance, check repair status, and update guests or request supervisor help when a room move is needed.
- Write shift handover notes covering expected late arrivals, pending room moves, and unresolved billing questions, including the next action and the team handling each item. (note 3)

- Note 1:
Room status and housekeeping confirmation make the arrival work specific to a hotel. Naomi does not promise that every early arrival can receive a room.
- Note 2:
Naomi reviews charges and posts payments. Disputes go to a supervisor rather than becoming an unsupported claim of refund authority.
- Note 3:
The handover names pending work and who will handle it. It does not claim that Naomi runs the night audit.
Connect reservations to rooms that are ready
Naomi's reservation bullet covers stay dates, room types, cancellation terms, and confirmations. Her arrival work adds a different decision: whether an assigned room is ready for the guest. The housekeeping bullet shows how she checks that instead of treating a reservation as proof that a room can be occupied immediately.
Experience
- Create and amend telephone reservations in OPERA Cloud, confirm stay dates and available room types, explain the selected rate's cancellation terms, and send booking confirmations. (note 1)
- Compare the arrivals list with room status in OPERA Cloud, confirm readiness with housekeeping for early arrivals, and refer requests the hotel cannot accommodate to the front office supervisor.
- Note 1:
Explaining the selected rate's terms supports reservation experience without claiming that Naomi sets prices or writes cancellation policy.
Use the reservation changes you actually handled. An individual telephone booking does not establish experience building group room blocks, managing travel-agent accounts, or setting rates. Naomi's resume shows none of those duties. If they matter to an opening, they need their own evidence.
Property context also helps. Naomi identifies an independent hotel, but the sample gives no room count or luxury-service claim. Add your property's size, type, or guest mix when you know it and it explains your work. Do not treat the hotel's room count as the number of arrivals you personally processed.
For a role called “Guest Service Agent,” compare the duties with your own experience before changing the resume's emphasis. Keep the actual title of each past job. Similar titles can cover different combinations of reservations, reception, concierge service, and overnight work.
Explain the guest bill and your authority
A guest folio is the record of charges and payments for a stay. Naomi's billing bullet names room and parking charges, payment posting, the folio she provides, and the notes she sends when a guest disputes a charge. This tells the reader more than “handled payments.”
Experience
- Check guests in using OPERA Cloud, confirm reservation and identity details following hotel procedures, review payment arrangements, assign a ready room, and issue keys.
- Review room and parking charges with departing guests, post payments and complete check-out in OPERA Cloud, provide guest folios, and send disputed charges with supporting reservation notes to the supervisor for a decision.
Describe the decisions you were authorized to make. Posting a payment does not establish authority to waive a cancellation charge, approve compensation, or resolve a chargeback. Naomi passes disputed charges to a supervisor. If your own role included approved adjustments, explain your part without publishing internal limits or guest information.
OPERA Cloud appears in Naomi's summary, skills, and experience because she uses it for bookings, arrivals, room status, and billing. That does not demonstrate system administration or every function in the software. Use the product you actually worked with. Familiarity with one property management system is not experience with all the systems listed in a posting.
Show what happens after a guest reports a problem
“Resolved guest complaints” can hide an unfinished request. Naomi describes equipment faults, the maintenance contact, the status check, and the update to the guest. If a room move is needed, she asks the supervisor for help. Her handover then records work that remains open rather than presenting every contact as a completed resolution.
Experience
- Log guest reports of room equipment faults, contact maintenance, check repair status, and update guests or request supervisor help when a room move is needed.
- Write shift handover notes covering expected late arrivals, pending room moves, and unresolved billing questions, including the next action and the team handling each item. (note 1)
- Note 1:
Late arrivals, room moves, and billing questions give the next shift specific items to act on rather than a general instruction to follow up.
These bullets provide evidence without a satisfaction score or response-time claim. A recorded request, confirmed status, guest update, or clear handover can describe useful work even when no result was measured. If you have a verified service score, say whether it covers you, a team, or the whole property. Do not assign a hotel-wide rating to your own work. The bullet-point guide explains how to choose evidence you can defend.
Naomi's eight skills stay within this same work. Guest check-in and room assignment appear in arrivals, guest check-out and billing appear in departure work, and reservations, housekeeping coordination, and handovers have separate bullets. There is no unsupported leadership, revenue-management, or concierge claim.
Check overnight duties and entry requirements separately
A late arrival in a shift note does not establish night-audit experience. Naomi's resume shows front desk handovers, not balancing the hotel's daily accounts or running the end-of-day process. She should not add “Night audit” to her skills to match an opening that combines the two roles. If you performed that work, describe the reports or accounts you reconciled, the daily closing process you ran, and how you handled differences within your assigned duties.
Read each opening for required and preferred experience, education, software, schedule, languages, and any additional responsibilities. A hotel may combine the desk with valet duties, sales expectations, or other services. Those requirements belong to that job. Naomi's resume does not establish driving duties, another language, or staff supervision.
The sample lists a high school diploma and no certification. Employer orientation or software training should not be renamed as a professional credential. If you earned the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute's Certified Front Desk Representative credential, list its exact name and issuer. Enrollment or preparation alone is not the award.
For a first hotel role, use the relevant customer work you have already done. Naomi's earlier cafe job shows order details, payments, recorded concerns, and refund requests referred to a lead, while her hotel experience begins in February 2023. Cafe orders do not become room reservations on a resume. Keep paid work, placements, and course exercises labeled accurately. The transferable-skills guide helps explain a connection without claiming the missing experience.
This page focuses on hotel stays and room availability. For patient appointments and insurance checks, use the medical receptionist example. For software cases and help-center guidance, compare the customer support example. Those settings share customer contact but need different evidence.
