Leasing Consultant Resume Example and Writing Guide

Published , 6 min read

A leasing consultant resume should connect apartment inquiries and tours with application checks, lease paperwork, and move-in coordination. Name the apartment setting, software, paperwork, and decisions you actually handled. This example also shows renewal follow-up without claiming that one employee caused a property's occupancy rate.

Aisha Benton, her employers, her school, and this career history are fictional. She works at an owner-operated apartment community in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after an earlier paid retail role. Replace the sample details with your own responsibilities, dates, systems, and qualifications.

  1. Note 1:

The record connects the requested apartment and move-in date to the next contact. It does not treat an inquiry as a signed lease.

  2. Note 2:

Checking whether a file is complete is separate from screening and approving an applicant.

A complete apartment leasing resume with a retail-to-leasing career path.

Show the steps between an inquiry and a lease

Aisha's first bullet names phone, online, and walk-in inquiries. She checks floor plans and availability against the requested move-in date, then records follow-up contacts and next steps in Yardi Voyager. That explains what she does with a prospect record rather than simply listing “lead management.”

The tour bullet adds the information a prospective resident needs: the apartment, amenities, approved rent, fees, and written rental criteria. Requests for exceptions go to the manager. The sample demonstrates explaining an existing offer, not setting rents or negotiating new terms independently.

Use the stages you actually handled. Scheduling a tour, conducting it, receiving an application, obtaining signatures, and completing a move-in are different events. Aisha's resume does not state a tour-to-lease conversion rate because the fictional history supplies no measured result. It also does not claim that every follow-up led to an application.

If you have verified leasing figures, identify the period, the stages counted, and whether the result belongs to you or the team. A property's occupancy rate also reflects available units, move-outs, pricing, and other work. Do not present it as your personal sales result without evidence of your contribution. Without a reliable number, a documented next step, checked lease package, or completed handoff still gives the reader useful evidence. The bullet-point guide explains how to write from those facts.

Distinguish application checks from approval

“Processed applications” can hide several different responsibilities. Aisha checks required documents, asks for missing items through the approved secure process, and sends the file for the manager's review. The bullet does not claim that she makes credit decisions, conducts background checks, or approves residents.

  • Prepare lease packages using manager-approved terms, compare unit numbers, dates, rent, and addenda with the approval record, and track outstanding signatures before sending completed documents for review. (note 1)
  1. Note 1:

Unit numbers, dates, rent, addenda, and signatures make the document work specific. The approved terms come from the manager.

Application completeness and lease-package checks show two stages of the paperwork.

Her lease bullet then identifies the comparison she makes before a package is reviewed. Preparing documents from approved terms supports “Lease preparation” in the skills list. It does not establish authority to write legal clauses or approve a concession. If your work included a different decision, describe your own responsibility and review process accurately.

Keep applicant names, financial records, screening results, and internal access details out of a public resume. You can describe a document checklist or an approval handoff without exposing the people whose records you handled.

Aisha lists Yardi Voyager because she uses it for availability and prospect records. That evidence does not show accounting, system administration, implementation, or every leasing feature in the platform. Name the product you used and support it with a task. Do not add Entrata or OneSite merely because an opening lists them as alternatives.

Connect paperwork to move-ins and renewals

A signed package does not establish that an apartment is ready for its new resident. Aisha confirms readiness with maintenance and the manager, reports unfinished work, and arranges key handover after authorization. This is leasing coordination, not a claim that she repairs the apartment or independently decides that it is ready to occupy.

  • Confirm apartment readiness with maintenance and the manager before move-in, report unfinished work, and arrange key handover after the manager authorizes it.
  • Send manager-approved renewal offers, record resident responses and pending signatures, and refer requests to change rent or lease terms to the manager. (note 1)
  1. Note 1:

Sending an offer, recording a response, and obtaining signatures are distinct steps. Requests for changed terms remain with the manager.

Apartment readiness and renewal responses need follow-up beyond preparing an offer.

The renewal bullet shows a different relationship with an existing resident. Aisha sends approved offers and tracks responses and missing signatures. It supports renewal experience without inventing a retention improvement or implying that an unanswered offer is a completed renewal.

Choose the details that explain your part in these handoffs. A maintenance status check, an unresolved item reported to the manager, or a signature still needed can be useful when you have no measured outcome. Avoid broad wording such as “managed the property” when your evidence covers assigned leasing tasks.

Adapt the example to the community and your background

Aisha's seven skills all have experience behind them. Her summary names leasing work since 2023, matching the April 2023 start date. The earlier Sales Associate title and dates remain intact. Furniture comparisons, stock checks, orders, and follow-up give her relevant customer experience. They do not become apartment tours or rental applications on the resume.

If you are applying for your first leasing role, keep your actual retail, hospitality, reception, or volunteer setting visible. Explain the customer conversations, records, and follow-through you can demonstrate. Label a course exercise as a project rather than experience handling live applications. The transferable-skills guide helps make that partial match clear.

Read the opening for its property type, application duties, software, schedule, education, and required qualifications. This example does not demonstrate affordable-housing income certifications, student housing, a new property's initial leasing campaign, market surveys, rent collection, or staff supervision. Add any of those only when your own history supports them.

Aisha has a high school diploma and no professional certification. If you earned the Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (CALP) credential from the National Apartment Association Education Institute, use the exact award name and issuer. Keep employer orientation and fair housing training distinct from professional certification. Check any license requirement for the particular opening separately.

For a role emphasizing tours and prospect contact, Aisha could keep those bullets first. For a paperwork-heavy opening, application checks and lease preparation could lead. Preserve the facts in either version. The hotel front desk example instead covers guest stays and billing, while the retail sales associate example covers merchandise and store transactions. Those are useful starting points for related experience, but neither substitutes for leasing evidence.
